Whereas diversified traditional crafts and craft villages are distributed across the country in Vietnam, their actual conditions, histories, and traditional values have not been fully made clear. In order to preserve Vietnamese traditional crafts for the next generations, there is a need to continue research work and study on them. TACMIN undertakes various research work, studies, and consulting services on the identification of traditional values, preservation and promotion of traditional artisan crafts, environmental improvement of craft villages, value chains and marketing, design improvement, and other issues facing the craft sector in Vietnam, in response to the demands of clients including customers who are interested in Vietnamese crafts, international organizations, government organizations, private firms, and NGOs, among others.

Research on Craft Villages in Northern Hanoi (2005): There are many craft villages in northern Vietnam including Hanoi especially those engaged in ceramics, bamboo work, and wood carving. A research work was conducted on their existing conditions, the issues they face, and the directions for craft promotion including policy support for craft villages located in Hanoi.

Preliminary Study on Craft Cluster Development in Central Vietnam (2004): In Central Vietnam the production of raw materials for craft making is actively done based on rich land conditions. A preliminary survey was undertaken for the conduct of cluster development for craft production area to strengthen linkages among raw material production areas, craft making enterprises, distributors, other related bodies including local governments, enhance competitiveness and promote exports.

Comprehensive Study on 11 Traditional Craft Items (2002-2004): In Vietnam there are many traditional crafts which has a long history of several hundred years. Comprehensive study was conducted for 11 main craft items including rush, lacquer ware, bamboo and rattan, wood carvings, stone carvings, handmade paper, woodcut print, and metal work on their history, raw materials, production process, quality, market, their existing conditions and future prospects.

Value Chain Analysis on Crafts (2003): Research was made on production and distribution of raw materials, processing methods, environmental impacts for raw materials of bamboo and rattan, wood carvings and textile products.

Comprehensive Mapping Survey on Craft Villages in Vietnam (2002): A comprehensive nationwide survey on craft villages was undertaken to identify distributions of more than 2,000 craft villages and their characteristics, problems, issues and development needs, covering the entire 61( at present 64) provinces.

Photo Voice Survey in Two Villages on Traditional Values Related to Craft Development Activities (2002-2003): An unique survey was conducted in Na San Village in Lai Chau Province of textile weaving by Lao ethnic minority and Dai Bai Village in Bac Giang Province of bronze craft making with several hundreds year history to identify traditional values and history of their crafts through photo taking and discussions by villagers themselves with assistance of experts. The results were compiled in panels and exhibited in Ethnology Museum in Hanoi.

Environment Survey in Van Phuc Village in Hatay Province (2002-2003): A l survey was conducted for a famous silk production of Van Phuc Village with regard to environmental impact of waste water , solid waste, noise etc. to identify problems and recommend improvement measures.
